Former Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, Bernard Allotey Jacobs

Former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) believes the NDC’s hounding of the Electoral Commission (EC) is a tit for tat game.

According to Bernard Allotey Jacobs, Ghanaians continually experience this phenomenon because politicians have never trusted the appointees who head the EC.

Mr Jacobs believes the Jean Mensa led EC is being treated the same way the incumbent New Patriotic Party treated the Charlotte Osei administration and finally ousted them out of office.

“It seems when parties don’t have power, the EC becomes a target on how to win support to bring parties in power and that is why we now have faceless people accusing the EC over small problems,” he said.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the Social Democrat urged politicians to exhibit some level of maturity in the political space because Ghana had come a long way in its political discourse.

He urged political parties, especially the major ones; the National Democratic Congress and New Patriotic Party to find lasting solutions to the issue which he believes is affecting Ghana’s democracy.

“The EC has made up its mind to compile a new register despite the disagreement so what we can do as parties is to delegate our powers to the branch executives in the course of the registration and police every centre.

“We must make sure we don’t send uneducated people to the centres since we say election is won at the polling station,” he advised.
