The Deputy Chief Imam of the Ahafo Region, Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Unus, has called on the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to direct environmental health officers in the region to intensify efforts to improve sanitation.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News in Goaso, Alhaji Unus expressed concern over what he described as the inability of sanitation officers to enforce sanitation laws by arresting and prosecuting offenders.

According to him, while the government’s monthly clean-up exercise is a commendable initiative, it will have little impact if individuals who flout sanitation regulations are not held accountable.

He argued that stricter enforcement of sanitation laws, including the prosecution of offenders, would serve as a deterrent and help promote cleaner communities across the region.

“The monthly clean-up exercise is a good initiative, but if sanitation offenders are not arrested and prosecuted, it will be difficult to achieve the desired improvement in sanitation,” he said.

Alhaji Unus also urged residents to cultivate good sanitation habits to help prevent the outbreak and spread of diseases.

He stressed that maintaining clean surroundings should not be left solely to the government, but should be a shared responsibility among all citizens.

The Deputy Chief Imam therefore encouraged residents to take active steps to keep their homes and communities clean, noting that improved sanitation is essential for public health and community development.
