The District Chief Executive for Adaklu District and Dean of MMDCEs in the Volta Region, Jerry Yaw Ameko, has cut sod for the construction of classroom blocks and teachers’ accommodation for six basic schools in the district.
The project involves the construction of three-unit classroom blocks with offices and staff common rooms, as well as six-unit teachers’ bungalows complete with bedrooms, toilets and bathrooms, store rooms, car parks, water and electricity facilities, and fencing for each beneficiary school.
The beneficiary communities are Adaklu Kodzobi, Adaklu Sikama, Adaklu Dawanu, Adaklu Kpodzi, Adaklu Akatsixoe and Adaklu Wayanu.

The initiative forms part of efforts by the District Assembly to improve educational infrastructure and provide decent accommodation for teachers in deprived communities.
Speaking during the sod-cutting ceremony at Kodzobi, Mr. Ameko said the provision of modern classroom facilities and teachers’ accommodation remains a key priority for the Assembly in improving the quality of education across the district.
According to him, the classroom blocks will help address infrastructure challenges confronting schools in the area, while the teachers’ bungalows are expected to encourage teachers to accept postings and remain in the communities.
He stressed that education remains a major pillar of development and assured residents that the Assembly would continue investing in projects that directly improve the lives of schoolchildren and communities.
Mr. Ameko disclosed that the project is being funded through collaboration between the District Assembly and the Member of Parliament for the area and Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, with support from GETFund.
He explained that the accommodation project would help teachers spend more time within the communities, enabling them to monitor pupils and support their development beyond classroom hours.
“When teachers reside in the community, they have the opportunity to interact with parents and monitor the upbringing of the children after school. This will go a long way in shaping their future,” he stated.
The DCE said the contractor is expected to mobilise to site within 14 days, with the project scheduled for completion within 12 months.
He also assured residents that the Assembly would not compromise on quality, warning contractors against shoddy work.
“There is no compromise on quality as far as work in Adaklu is concerned,” he stressed, adding that district engineers and consultants would closely monitor progress until completion.
Mr. Ameko further appealed to residents to support the contractors and take ownership of the project to ensure its successful completion and maintenance.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Adaklu Kodzobi, Togbe Dzegblade IV, expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the intervention, describing the project as timely and beneficial to both teachers and pupils in the area.
