The body of a man believed to be in his 60s has been discovered along the railway line at Alajo following the heavy rains and flooding that swept through parts of Accra on Monday.
The grim discovery was made in the aftermath of the floods, which caused widespread destruction across several communities, damaging vehicles, homes and other properties.
Speaking from the scene, Assistant Division Officer One (ADO1) Alex King Nartey of the Public Relations Department of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said preliminary observations suggest the deceased was washed to the location by the floodwaters.
According to ADO1 Nartey, residents living near the railway line were unable to identify the man and told emergency personnel they did not know where he had come from.
He said the body remained at the scene awaiting the arrival of police officers with a body bag to convey it to the mortuary for preservation and further investigations.
Meanwhile, the flooding left a trail of destruction in Alajo, where several vehicles were submerged and properties destroyed after floodwaters inundated large sections of the community.
Authorities are continuing to assess the extent of the damage caused by the flooding, while emergency response teams remain on the ground assisting affected residents.
