One person is feared dead following severe flooding in the Adabraka–Odawna area of Accra, as emergency responders continue efforts to rescue victims trapped by rising floodwaters.
The deceased was among several people caught up in the floods triggered by hours of torrential rainfall that began late Sunday, June 28, and continued into Monday, June 29, 2026.
A relative of the victim was seen weeping uncontrollably at the scene as rescue personnel worked to recover and evacuate affected residents.
A local resident who participated in the initial rescue efforts said community members managed to save about 15 people before personnel from the security services arrived to take over the operation.
Another rescued victim received emergency medical treatment at the scene before being transported to the hospital for further care.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Korle-Klottey, Alfred Allotey-Gaisie, said the rescue mission is still ongoing as emergency teams continue searching flooded homes and other affected areas for possible survivors.
The Member of Parliament for Korle-Klottey, Zenator Agyeman-Rawlings, is at the scene overseeing the emergency response alongside the Municipal Chief Executive, personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ghana Police Service, and other security agencies.
The flooding follows hours of heavy rainfall that submerged major roads across Accra, disrupted traffic, and left commuters and residents stranded in several parts of the capital.
Authorities have urged residents in flood-prone communities to move to higher ground and cooperate with emergency responders as rescue operations continue.
