The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed that four people have died following the devastating flooding and fire outbreak at the Odawna Market.
Speaking to Adom News, the Fire Service Headquarters Public Relations Officer, ADO1 Isaac Kwadwo Poku, said firefighters were initially unable to begin firefighting operations because floodwaters blocked access routes, preventing fire tenders from reaching the scene.
He disclosed that about 300 people were successfully rescued, but sadly three men and one woman were confirmed dead.
According to the GNFS, four fire appliances have since been deployed to the scene, with personnel working tirelessly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.
Meanwhile, some victims who spoke to Adom News recounted their harrowing experiences, describing the extent of their losses as the flood and fire destroyed property and livelihoods.
