A resident of Adabraka risked his life swimming through floodwaters to rescue a goat after his home was inundated during Monday’s heavy rains in Accra.
A video circulating on social media shows the man navigating the deep floodwaters in an attempt to save the animal as severe flooding overwhelmed homes in the area.
The incident has become one of several dramatic scenes emerging from the capital following hours of heavy rainfall that began late Sunday night and continued into Monday, June 29, 2026.
The prolonged downpour triggered widespread flooding across several parts of Accra, submerging major roads, homes and shops, while disrupting the morning rush hour.
Many commuters were left stranded as roads became impassable. Several vehicles were seen struggling through flooded streets, while motorists abandoned others after becoming trapped in the rising waters.
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) earlier issued a flood alert for parts of Accra, Tema and Kasoa, urging residents to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
The Ministry of the Interior has also advised residents to remain indoors where possible and avoid travelling through flooded areas. Emergency response teams have since been deployed by NADMO to assist affected communities and respond to distress calls.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have urged the public to prioritise their safety as heavy rains are expected to persist in some parts of the country.
