Motorists using the south-bound lane of the Aburi to Accra road were left stranded Friday afternoon after a heavy downpour caused a landslide

Police have announced the closure of a section of the Aburi to Accra road following another landslide, Sunday.

In a post on its official Facebook page, the Ghana Police Service explained that the closure of the Peduase to Ayi Mensah stretch of the road was closed to prevent casualties.

Police say marks on the rocks suggest another landslide could recur.

“Police Highway and NADMO [National Disaster Management Organisation] are at the scene,” the post said.

Last week, motorists using the south-bound lane of the road were left stranded after a heavy downpour caused a landslide.

Video circulated on social media show motorists struggling to navigate the road that connects the Eastern Region to Accra.

The road is home to the Aburi Mountain which is one of Ghana’s highest topographies and a major tourist destination.

The road was re-opened after 24 hours.
