The Ministry of Education has welcomed the decision by three teacher unions to suspend their nationwide strike following negotiations with the government and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.

In a statement dated October 9, 2026, the Ministry expressed appreciation to the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG) for suspending the industrial action.

The Ministry described the decision as a positive step towards resolving outstanding concerns through dialogue and constructive engagement in the interest of teachers and learners.

It reaffirmed its commitment to working with the unions, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and other stakeholders to address unresolved issues, improve teachers’ welfare and ensure stability in the delivery of quality education.

The Ministry also acknowledged the patience and resilience of teachers, parents, learners and other stakeholders affected by the strike, urging all parties to sustain the spirit of cooperation and good faith.

It said maintaining industrial harmony and creating an environment where teachers are valued, supported and empowered remain important to Ghana’s education transformation agenda.
