Ghana extends condolences to Nigeria over tragic plane crash

The Government of Ghana has extended its deepest condolences to the government and people of Nigeria following a tragic plane crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State, which claimed 25 lives.

The plane crash occurred in Igbokoda in Ondo State on October 5, 2026.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, October 8, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said President John Dramani Mahama, the government and people of Ghana were saddened by the incident and stood in solidarity with Nigeria at the difficult time.

The Ministry noted that Ghana shares in Nigeria’s grief, particularly as the country continues to remember the loss of six Ghanaian compatriots in a similar incident barely a year ago.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to all those affected by this devastating loss,” the statement said.

Ghana also expressed sympathy to the bereaved families, friends and colleagues of the victims, as well as members of the Nigerian Armed Forces and the people of Nigeria.

The government said its thoughts and prayers were with the families who had lost their loved ones in the crash.
