The family of Awudu Issaka, a lecturer at Gbewaa College of Education, has taken to the streets of Binduri to demand justice over his reported death following an encounter with military personnel in Bawku.
The family, joined by some youth from Binduri, began the protest with a courtesy call on the Binduri Naba before presenting a petition to the Binduri District Chief Executive, seeking a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Issaka’s death.
According to the family, Issaka was accosted by military personnel on September 11, 2026, while they were conducting operations in Bawku over an alleged curfew violation.
They claim the lecturer was assaulted during the encounter and subsequently died at the Quality Medical Centre in Bawku later that night.
The protesters gathered at the Binduri Chief’s Palace, where they called for justice and a thorough probe into what happened to the lecturer.
The Binduri Naba, Naba Alhaji Akuom, expressed his support for the protesters and their call for justice.
“This bone of contention between the security and the people of Binduri culminated our purpose for being here to tell the whole world what has truncated Awudu Issaka’s life,” he said.
In their petition, the family urged the government to investigate the circumstances leading to Issaka’s death and ensure that those responsible, if established, are brought to justice.
