The Member of Parliament for Suaman, Frederick Addy, popularly known as Freddy’s, has donated medical equipment worth GH¢95,000 to the Dadieso Polyclinic to improve eye care services at the facility.
The donation includes a slit lamp biomicroscope, a 226-piece complete trial lens set, an applanation tonometer, an ophthalmoscope and a Snellen eye chart with lead light.
The equipment is expected to support the operationalisation of the eye care unit at the polyclinic and improve the facility’s capacity to diagnose and manage various eye conditions.
Speaking after the presentation, Frederick Addy said the donation forms part of his efforts to improve infrastructure and equipment at the Dadieso Polyclinic as it works towards attaining hospital status.
He said upgrading the facility must be accompanied by the provision of the necessary medical equipment to ensure that residents have access to quality healthcare.
According to the MP, the intervention will also help reduce the burden on residents who have to travel outside the district to access specialised eye care services.
Frederick Addy disclosed that he had previously donated incubators, a standby generator, personal protective equipment and other items to the polyclinic to support healthcare delivery and its transition towards hospital status.
The Ophthalmic Nurse at the Dadieso Polyclinic, Abigail Achiaa Manu, commended the MP for the donation, saying the availability of the equipment would reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for eye care.
She said the equipment would enhance the assessment and management of conditions including glaucoma, cataracts, conjunctivitis and trachoma at the facility.
