Renowned pastor and author Dag Heward-Mills has paid an emotional tribute to veteran gospel singer Bernice Offei, remembering her as an old friend and a woman who lived out her faith.

During a recent sermon to his congregation, the founder of Lighthouse Chapel International paused his message to speak about Bernice, who passed away at the age of 63.

Heward-Mills revealed that his relationship with the gospel singer went back several decades, as they knew each other from their school days.

He also recalled that Bernice lived close to his home at the time and was already known for her singing.

“She was my personal friend,” he said while reflecting on their long-standing relationship.

Back in the 70s, Bernice had lived out her passion for singing and led ministrations.

Heward-Mills adds to a list of gospel ministers who have honored the veteran gospel musician, whose career spanned several decades.

Bernice Offei had reportedly battled dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, for about four to five years before her death.

Her health reportedly deteriorated in the days leading up to her death on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
