Ghana’s Black Maidens have been handed a challenging Group B draw for the 2027 U-17 Girls Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where they will face regional rivals Nigeria, Togo and Niger.
The qualifying tournament, which also serves as the WAFU Zone B U-17 Girls Championship, will determine the teams that will represent the sub-region at the 2027 U-17 Girls AFCON.
Nigeria are expected to pose Ghana’s toughest challenge, with the seven-time FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup medallists boasting one of Africa’s strongest youth women’s football programmes.
Togo and Niger will also be aiming to upset the favourites and secure progression from the group.
The tournament will be hosted by Côte d’Ivoire and is scheduled to begin on 15 September 2026.
Ghana will head into the competition with high expectations after establishing themselves as one of the continent’s leading youth teams in recent years.
The Black Maidens will be seeking to negotiate a demanding group stage and book their place at the continental finals, as they look to continue their tradition of competing among Africa’s elite U-17 women’s sides.
