Three suspected members of a robbery gang have been shot dead during a police operation, while another has been arrested in connection with the theft of GH¢430,000 from two Mobile Money vendors at the Buipe Cattle Market in the Savannah Region.
According to the police, the incident occurred on June 29, 2026, when four armed men allegedly attacked the vendors and made away with the money after firing sporadically.
The suspects were reportedly armed with two pump-action guns, a single-barrel gun and an AK-47 assault rifle.

Following the robbery, the Inspector-General of Police deployed the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit to support the Savannah Regional Police Command with investigations.
A 28-year-old suspect, identified as Yacouba Oumar, was arrested at Soronuase in the Bono East Region on July 23 following sustained surveillance by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and the Police Intelligence Directorate, with support from the Kintampo Divisional Police Command.
The police said Oumar admitted to participating in the robbery and identified three alleged accomplices as Yakubu Seidu, alias Baba; Abdulai Aziz Yahaya, alias Addo; and Abduli Buipe, alias Addo.
Further investigations reportedly led police officers to Atebubu, Soronuase, Agogo and Dawadawa, where some members of the gang and weapons believed to have been used in the robbery were suspected to be hiding.
The police said an exchange of gunfire subsequently occurred between officers and the suspects, resulting in the deaths of Yakubu Seidu, Abdulai Aziz Yahaya and Oumaro Amadu.
The bodies of the three suspects have since been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Police also recovered one pump-action gun with five live BB cartridges and a single-barrel gun believed to have been used during the robbery.
The arrested suspect, Yacouba Oumar, remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations.
Meanwhile, the police are pursuing an alleged mastermind identified as Alhaji Yacouba, also known as Masaji, Muimen or Yakubu, whom investigators say contracted the group to carry out the robbery.
The police said efforts are underway to arrest him and other persons suspected to be connected to the GH¢430,000 robbery.
