Fire has destroyed part of the family home of the late Tamale Central Member of Parliament, Murtala Mohammed, in Tamale, leaving nine of the building’s 17 rooms damaged.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 5, prompting a swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The Northern Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I) Hudu Baba, said the Service received a distress call at 3:29 p.m., with firefighters arriving at the scene eight minutes later, at 3:37 p.m.
According to him, two schoolchildren who were trapped in one of the rooms were successfully rescued by firefighters upon their arrival before efforts were intensified to contain the blaze.
Firefighters subsequently brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to the remaining sections of the house.
ADO I Hudu Baba said investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the fire and assess the full extent of the damage caused by the incident.
No fatalities or injuries were reported.
Murtala Mohammed was among eight people who lost their lives in the August 6, 2025 military helicopter crash in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region.
