Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has disclosed that Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz earns $80,000 per month, dismissing reports that the Portuguese tactician was receiving a monthly salary of $100,000.
Queiroz was appointed as Ghana’s head coach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup following the dismissal of Otto Addo in March.
Although the Ghana Football Association (GFA) never publicly disclosed the financial details of his short-term contract, speculation over his salary has persisted since his appointment.
Speaking in an interview with TV3, Mr Adams clarified the situation, insisting that the veteran coach’s monthly earnings are lower than previously reported.
“Carlos Queiroz earns $80,000 a month, not the $100,000 that had been speculated,” the Buem MP revealed.
The 73-year-old oversaw an encouraging World Cup campaign, guiding Ghana to the knockout stages of the tournament for the first time since the 2010 edition.
The Black Stars began their campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Panama before holding England to a goalless draw.
A 2-1 defeat to Croatia in their final Group C fixture saw Ghana finish third in the standings, but they still progressed to the Round of 32.
Ghana’s World Cup journey came to an end after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the knockout stage.
Despite the elimination, Queiroz’s performance has reportedly impressed both the Ghana Football Association and the government, with the Portuguese coach expected to be offered a new two-year contract to remain in charge of the national team.
Attention will now shift to qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, where Ghana has been drawn in Group C alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Somalia and The Gambia.
The qualifying campaign is scheduled to begin in September as the Black Stars aim to secure a return to Africa’s premier football tournament.
