The Director of Legal Affairs of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gary Nimako Marfo, has called on the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Raymond Archer, to exercise restraint in the ongoing investigation involving NPP communicator Dennis Edward Aboagye.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Nimako said he attempted to reach Mr Archer several times but his calls went unanswered.
“I called Raymond several times yesterday, but he never picked up my call. He knew I was going to tell him that what is happening, I think enough is enough,” he said.
According to him, he had initially chosen to engage the EOCO boss privately, but believes the situation now requires a stronger intervention.
“I don’t talk in vain. At first, I would just keep quiet and continue engaging him quietly, but now I think enough is enough,” he stated.
He added, “Somebody must pull the brakes.”
Mr Nimako’s comments come after Dennis Edward Aboagye, a member of the NPP communications team and former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), was granted bail by EOCO following his arrest over alleged financial and procurement irregularities.
Mr Aboagye was granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three sureties, two of whom must be justified, after hours of engagement between his lawyers and EOCO officials.
He was arrested upon his arrival in Ghana as part of investigations into alleged financial infractions involving the IMCCoD.
The case has attracted reactions from both sides of the political divide, with the NPP raising concerns over the manner of his arrest, while EOCO maintains that the investigation is part of its mandate to pursue alleged financial crimes.
