The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, Ya-Na Abukari II, describing his death as a great loss to Dagbon and the entire country.
In a statement, the Ministry extended its condolences to the Regent, chiefs and elders of the Dagbon Traditional Area, the Royal Family, the people of Dagbon, the Northern Regional House of Chiefs and all Ghanaians mourning the revered traditional ruler.
The Ministry, which is responsible for matters relating to chieftaincy, traditional governance and the preservation of Ghana’s cultural heritage, said it recognises the late Ya-Na’s significant contributions to peacebuilding, national unity, cultural preservation and the socio-economic development of the Dagbon Kingdom.
It commended the late monarch for his pivotal role in bringing an end to the longstanding Dagbon conflict, describing his ascension to the throne as a symbol of peace, reconciliation and visionary leadership.
According to the Ministry, the late Ya-Na’s reign reflected the values of wisdom, dignity and selfless service that define Ghana’s traditional leadership institution.
It noted that his passing was not only a loss to Dagbon but also to the entire nation, adding that his legacy of leadership, reconciliation and commitment to the welfare of his people would continue to inspire generations to come.
The Ministry assured the bereaved family and the people of Dagbon of its support during the mourning period and prayed for strength, comfort and divine guidance as preparations are made to give the late Overlord a befitting farewell.
It concluded by praying for the peaceful repose of the soul of Ya-Na Abukari II.
