The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Yandoh, has assured party members of a peaceful and transparent constituency executive election scheduled for Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12, 2026.
He said the processes leading up to the elections have been free and fair, giving him confidence that the exercise will be conducted smoothly.
Speaking on Nhyira FM’s Kro Yi Mu Nsem, Mr. Yandoh revealed that although injunctions have been filed in some constituencies, he has personally intervened to resolve other disputes that could have ended up in court.
“The party’s interest is to ensure that every delegate and aspirant is given a level playing field. We have worked to address grievances early so that we do not end up in court,” Mr. Yandoh told host Nana Ampratwum.
He urged party members to conduct themselves peacefully before, during, and after the elections and to accept the outcome in the interest of party unity.
Mr. Yandoh also called on the electoral committee, security agencies and other stakeholders to work together to ensure the elections are conducted peacefully across all 47 constituencies in the Ashanti Region.
However, he alleged that the government deliberately scheduled its nationwide sanitation exercise to coincide with the opposition party’s internal elections in an attempt to disrupt the process.
According to Mr. Yandoh, the timing of the exercise raises questions about the government’s motives, as thousands of party delegates and executives are expected to participate in the polls across the country.
The nationwide clean-up exercise, scheduled for Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, is part of the government’s efforts to improve sanitation and prevent flooding following the recent floods in Accra.
Mr. Yandoh argued that while the sanitation initiative is important, it could have been held on different dates to avoid clashing with a major political event.
“The government knows very well that this is a key period for the opposition. Scheduling a nationwide exercise on the same day is not a coincidence. It is a calculated attempt to suppress participation and create confusion,” he alleged.
Party members are expected to elect new constituency executives on Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12, 2026, to steer the affairs of the party at the grassroots ahead of future elections.
