Nollywood actress May Yul-Edochie has filed a N1.5 billion lawsuit against her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, social commentator Yinka Omolola Theisen and other unidentified social media users over alleged defamation, cyberbullying and breach of confidentiality.
The suit, filed at the Lagos State High Court, accuses the defendants of orchestrating a sustained campaign of online harassment through blogs and social media platforms.
According to court documents, May alleged that she has endured years of defamatory publications, including false claims, manipulated photographs, AI-generated images and death threats.
She further claimed that despite serving legal notices in 2025, the alleged attacks continued, with new anonymous accounts being created to publish similar content.
May also accused her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, of breaching attorney-client confidentiality by allegedly disclosing confidential information relating to her legal matters and publishing defamatory content about her.
The actress is seeking N1 billion in damages from Ugwuonye and N500 million from Yinka Theisen.
In addition to the monetary claims, she is asking the court to direct social media platforms to remove the allegedly defamatory posts and disclose the identities of anonymous account holders involved in the publications.
Justice Abdul-Raheem Tejumade Muyideen has ordered that the court processes be served on the defendants. The case has been adjourned pending a report on the service of the court documents.
