A mother’s relationship with her son has been strained after a prophet reportedly told him she is a witch, a claim that has since torn the family apart and turned into a wider controversy following an appearance on Nhyira FM’s Obra show.
The woman appeared on the show alongside her son and a daughter to recount how the rift began.
According to her, her son took her to the prophet for deliverance following the witchcraft claim, and she was subjected to treatment she described as inhuman, an ordeal that was recorded on video.
Her daughter was later taken through the same process by her brother and suffered similar treatment.
The sister expressed anger over the items she said the prophet demanded they provide for the deliverance sessions, which included a live goat, milk, soap and egg.
Since then, the son has cut off contact with the rest of the family and does not answer their calls, she said. The family’s worry deepened after people close to him began reporting that he was showing signs of mental illness and had taken to accusing other people of witchcraft, allegations the son has denied.
For his part, the son pushed back on his mother’s account, accusing her of taking him to about three fetish priests during a difficult period in his life, visits he said made no difference to his situation. He maintained that his circumstances only improved after he met the prophet.
The prophet at the centre of the accusations was expected to appear on the show to respond but failed to show up. Addressing his absence, the host, Ohemaa Be, said the matter could not be allowed to end with the family’s account alone and urged the prophet to come onto the show and answer for himself.
She indicated that her team can support the mother and daughter if they want to file police reports against the prophet after airing videos of the deliverance sessions they say they were subjected to.
