The Ghana Meteorological Agency has warned Ghanaians to prepare for more rainfall from Wednesday through Saturday as a storm system moving westward from Benin through Togo continues to push across southern Ghana.
Meteorologist Frederick Cudjoe told Graphic Online that while the Greater Accra Region would experience a gradual easing of rainfall on Monday afternoon and evening, the respite would be brief and intermittent.
“From this afternoon to the evening, we are expecting a relaxation in the rainfall activities as compared to what we have experienced from yesterday night into this morning. So Greater Accra will have total relaxation, but we are still anticipating intermittent slight rain for some places within Greater Accra,” he said.
He explained that the rainfall system that battered the south-eastern parts of the country had moved into the Central Region and parts of the Ashanti Region, and was expected to push further westward into the Western North and Western regions later Monday evening and into the night.
More intense rainfall is then anticipated from Wednesday through Saturday as the moving storm system continues its westward trajectory.
The warning comes after hours of torrential rain that began Sunday night caused widespread flooding across Accra and its surrounding areas.
Several banks announced branch closures on Monday, while some tertiary institutions postponed examinations in response to the flooding.
