The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a shooting incident in which former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo sustained a gunshot wound to her left ear while visiting her late father’s residence in Kwabenya.
According to a police statement, the Madina Divisional Command is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The statement disclosed that Adwoa Safo reported the matter to the Kwabenya Police and presented a vehicle with registration number GN 3482-24, which had visible gunshot damage.
She was issued a medical report form and is currently receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, the vehicle has been retained for forensic examination.

Church lawyer’s account
However, lawyer for the Kristo Asafo Church, Nana Kofi Kantanka, has offered a different version of events, alleging that the former Gender Minister fired the first shot during an incident that disrupted the introduction of the church’s newly appointed leader to its General Council.
Speaking on JoyNews on Sunday, June 21, 2026, Kantanka claimed Adwoa Safo arrived at the venue and attempted to force her way through the gates with her vehicle, ramming the southern gate before moving to the northern gate and repeating the action.
“The information I got was that she fired the first shot and then banged the gate with her car. The private security also knew that the lives of people were at risk, so they were giving warning shots,” he said.
He added that attendees initially heard loud bangs which they thought were gunfire but turned out to be the sounds of the vehicle crashing into the gates, adding that private security personnel fired warning shots in response to what they perceived as a threat to those gathered on the premises.
Kantanka rejected suggestions that Adwoa Safo had been barred from the event, insisting she would have been granted access through normal procedures.
“No one prevented her from entering. If she had parked and indicated she wanted to enter, that would have been all,” he said.
He said he could not confirm whether she had been wounded.
The incident is linked to the ongoing succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo movement following the death of its founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
Investigations by both state security agencies and church authorities are expected to establish the full circumstances of the confrontation.
