Four people have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident involving a Metro Mass Transit (MMT) bus on the Peki stretch in the Volta Region on Sunday, June 21.

The bus, which was travelling from Accra to Dambai, reportedly veered off the road and plunged into a ditch, leaving several passengers dead and others injured.

A total of 28 people, including the driver and his mate, were on board the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Authorities have confirmed that four passengers died in the crash, while a number of others sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving treatment.

Among the injured are two pregnant women. Reports indicate that one was six months pregnant while the other was five months pregnant at the time of the accident.

Two victims are also said to be in critical condition and are receiving urgent medical attention.

Emergency responders and security personnel rushed to the scene to carry out rescue operations and transport the injured to nearby health facilities.

The cause of the accident is yet to be established. Investigations are expected to determine the circumstances that led the driver to lose control of the vehicle before it veered off the road and crashed into the ditch.
