A building collapsed has collapsed in Cape Coast following heavy rainfall in the early hours of Sunday, June 21, 2026, killing two people.

The deceased have been identified as 12-year-old Anastasia Abakah and 40-year-old Adwoa Baduwa.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said four occupants were inside the single-room structure at Gyagyaano, behind Yogurt Fie on Idan Fourth Alley, when it collapsed.

Rescue teams from the Cape Coast Metropolitan and Central Regional Fire Service headquarters launched an immediate operation and pulled all four victims, one male and three females, from the rubble.

They were transported to the Ewim Polyclinic for treatment, where Anastasia Abakah and Adwoa Baduwa were later confirmed dead.

Preliminary investigations suggest the heavy rainfall weakened the building’s structural integrity, causing the collapse.

The Fire Service has urged residents living in old mud houses or buildings showing signs of structural weakness to seek professional assessments and evacuate any unsafe structures, particularly during the rainy season.
