The Oil Palm Development Association of Ghana (OPDAG) has announced that three million gallons of palm oil are ready for distribution to Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country under the Free SHS feeding programme.

The announcement was made during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between OPDAG and the National Food Buffer Stock Company Limited, a partnership aimed at improving the supply, quality, and timely delivery of palm oil to schools nationwide.

Speaking at the ceremony, the National President of OPDAG, Paul Kwabena Amaning, described the agreement as a major milestone in government’s efforts to reset and strengthen the palm oil supply chain to educational institutions.

According to him, OPDAG’s over 36,000 members are prepared to ensure a steady supply of high-quality palm oil to support the Free SHS programme.

He assured stakeholders that the association has the capacity and commitment to deliver quality products while meeting supply deadlines.

Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company Limited, George Abradu-Otoo, described the partnership as a historic occasion, noting that Buffer Stock continues to break new ground in ensuring food security and efficient supply management for government programmes.

He explained that under the agreement, OPDAG will serve as the primary supplier of palm oil to SHSs, helping to streamline procurement processes and improve quality control.

Mr. Abradu-Otoo stressed that the collaboration will guarantee timely delivery of palm oil to schools beginning from the next academic year in September.

The agreement will run for an initial period of one year, during which its effectiveness will be assessed. If successful, the partnership could be renewed.

Both parties expressed optimism that the initiative will not only improve feeding in schools but also create economic opportunities for thousands of oil palm farmers and processors across the country.

The partnership is expected to play a key role in supporting the government’s broader agenda of strengthening local production, promoting agribusiness growth, and ensuring an efficient food supply to educational institutions.
