The mother of a female student involved in the Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School incident has expressed shock and disappointment after a viral video showed her daughter allegedly being assaulted by a teacher.
Recounting the mother’s words in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, the Public Relations Officer of the Atwima Mponua District Education Directorate, Eric Aboagye, said the woman had travelled from another town to Nyinahin to engage authorities over the matter.
He said the woman was deeply distressed after seeing the widely circulated video.
“The mother was crying and said that is not how she raised her daughter. She was very surprised to see the video of her daughter fighting with a teacher,” Mr Aboagye stated.
According to him, the mother expressed shock and disappointment over how the incident had escalated.
Mr Aboagye also provided updates on the legal process, explaining that police were preparing to arraign the teacher in court, but the suspect’s lawyers arrived after court sitting hours on Tuesday.
“On Tuesday, the police were processing the teacher for court. His lawyers arrived later, but by then the court had closed,” he explained.
He added that efforts were underway on Wednesday morning to ensure the suspect is brought before the court.
“This morning, they went to the police commander to see how he can be taken to court,” he said.
The footage, which has sparked widespread public outrage, appears to show the teacher physically confronting the student while other students are heard pleading for him to stop. In the video, he is seen repeatedly striking the student and at one point lifting and throwing her to the ground.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
