The Ghana Armed Forces has carried out a cordon and search operation within the Bawku General Area in the Upper East Region as part of ongoing activities under Exercise Storm Shield 2026.
The operation, which took place on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, forms part of efforts to reinforce peace, stability and security in the area amid ongoing security concerns.

Military personnel conducted the exercise to neutralise potential threats, retrieve contraband items and apprehend suspects believed to be linked to disturbances in the area.
Speaking after the operation, the Command Operations Officer at Headquarters Northern Command, Colonel John Yaw Kwarteng, expressed appreciation to residents for their cooperation throughout the exercise.

He also appealed to members of the public to provide credible information to the military and other security agencies to help identify and arrest individuals involved in activities that could threaten peace in the area.
Colonel Kwarteng assured residents that the military would continue sustained operations to safeguard lives and property in the Bawku enclave.

Following the exercise, some suspects together with items retrieved during the operation were handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and possible prosecution.
