Ghana international Ransford Königsdörffer has completed a move to Bundesliga club Mainz 05 after leaving Hamburger SV as a free agent.

The 24-year-old striker departs Hamburg following a 2025/26 campaign in which he featured 33 times in the league and scored five goals.

Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert welcomed the signing, praising the forward’s profile and suitability for the club’s attacking philosophy.

“Ransford Königsdörffer is a quick, physical forward whose style of play will fit our attack very well,” Bungert said.

“At 24, Ransford is at an excellent age and we’re very pleased that we were able to convince him to take the next steps in his career with us at Mainz 05.”

Königsdörffer, meanwhile, said discussions with the club’s technical team convinced him to make the switch.

“I’m really looking forward to this new challenge here in Mainz,” he said.

“The talks here gave me a very clear idea of the plan the head coach and the club have for me, and that was really convincing.”

The Ghanaian arrives in Mainz with solid experience in German football’s second tier, having amassed 130 appearances and 29 goals across spells with Hamburger SV and Dynamo Dresden.

On the international stage, he has earned seven caps for Ghana, including participation at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
