NPP Flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on the party’s Minority Caucus in Parliament to adopt a “government-in-waiting” posture as it prepares for the new parliamentary session, signalling a strategic shift from post-election introspection to rebuilding towards the 2029 general election.

Addressing the Minority in a closed-door briefing ahead of Parliament’s resumption, Dr. Bawumia said the manner in which MPs conduct themselves from the new sitting will be key to restoring public confidence in the NPP as a credible alternative government.

“Let every Ghanaian who watches this session come away thinking: the NPP is ready, and the NPP is on our side,” he said.

Strategic Shift In Posture

He explained that the party is no longer focused on recovery from the 2024 election defeat, but on repositioning itself as a strong opposition preparing to return to power in 2029.

Dr. Bawumia noted that public scrutiny of the current administration is increasing as the initial post-election goodwill gradually fades, creating an opportunity for the NPP to present itself as a viable alternative.

Road To 2028 Begins Now

He urged MPs to treat every parliamentary engagement as part of a long-term strategy to rebuild voter trust.

“The road to 2028 will not be won in one rally or one manifesto launch,” he stated.

Governing Mentality

He further called on the Minority to combine scrutiny of government policies with credible alternative proposals, warning against a purely oppositional stance.

Unity As Foundation

Dr. Bawumia also emphasised internal unity, urging MPs to avoid divisions and focus on the collective goal of returning the party to power.

“Let no one outside this party profit from avoidable divisions within our ranks,” he said.

He concluded by expressing confidence in the Caucus and pledging continued support as the party works to reorganise and reconnect with the public ahead of future elections.
