Former Deputy Energy Minister and Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako Mensah, has expressed concern over renewed power outages popularly referred to as “dumsor,” saying fear of arrest is discouraging public discussion on the issue.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam, the MP said that even as a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy, he is now cautious about commenting on the situation due to what he described as rising tension around public criticism of the power sector.

According to him, he has personally experienced recent outages but feels constrained in speaking openly about them.

“As a member of the Energy Committee, I even wanted to talk about dumsor but I can no longer do so because I will be arrested. Coming from my constituency on Tuesday morning, there was no light. But once I talk about it, I fear I will be arrested,” he stated.

Mr. Adomako Mensah further admitted that his concern extends to the conduct of security agencies, saying it has contributed to a climate of caution among public figures.

“One thing I fear most is the police. So now, we are all quiet,” he said.

The lawmaker also cited the arrest and detention of Agona West New Patriotic Party (NPP) Organiser, David Essandoh, over allegations that he criticised President John Dramani Mahama regarding the return of “dumsor.”

“David Essandoh was arrested for writing that dumsor is back and we had to intervene to bail him. So now I prefer to keep quiet,” he noted.
