The Black Stars have intensified preparations in Puebla, with 22 players taking part in training ahead of Friday’s international friendly against Mexico as part of their build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The training session featured a blend of established and emerging talents, including Majeed Ashimeru, Ibrahim Osman, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Felix Afena-Gyan, alongside Joseph Opoku, Prince Amoako, David Oduro, Aziz Issah, Jan Kwesi Gyamerah, Emmanuel Agyei, Daniel Agyei and Salim Adams.
Others involved were Dacosta Antwi, Terry Yegbe, Nathaniel Adjei, Ebenezer Abban, Oscar Oppong, Razak Simpson, Ebenezer Adade, Solomon Abagsi, Jerry Afriyie and Benjamin Asare.
The Black Stars will face Mexico at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla on Friday, May 22, with kick-off scheduled for 19:00 GMT. The fixture forms part of head coach Carlos Queiroz’s ongoing assessment of his squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana will conclude its pre-World Cup friendly schedule with another test against Wales national football team on June 2 at Cardiff City Stadium.
The team is preparing for its fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, where the Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England national football team, Croatia national football team and Panama national football team.
Their campaign will begin against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field in Toronto before facing England in Boston on June 23 and concluding the group stage against Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 27.
Having exited at the group stage in both 2014 and 2022, the Black Stars will be aiming for a stronger showing in 2026 as they seek to progress further in the tournament and make a bigger impact on the global stage.
