A two-and-a-half-year-old boy who went missing at Assin Awiafitaamu near Ketukrom in the Assin North District of the Central Region has been found dead after five days of searching.

The child, identified as Nana Yaw, disappeared on May 13, 2026, after his grandmother left him at home in the care of his two siblings to go to the farm.

Family members and residents launched an extensive search, and announcements were made through local information centres in neighbouring communities. When all efforts failed, the child’s grandfather, Godwin Tettey Amanor, reported the matter to the police on May 15.

The search ended in tragedy on May 17 at around 4:39 p.m., when a group of hunters from Assin Kushea stumbled upon the boy’s body in a thicket while tracking game with hunting dogs near a settlement belonging to a man identified as Papa Magye. They immediately alerted residents, who informed the family before the matter was reported to the police.

A team of officers led by the District Crime Officer, ASP Charles Akugre, visited the scene to begin investigations. Police sources indicated the body was found nearly two kilometres from where the child was last seen and about half a kilometre from Papa Magye’s house.

Nana Yaw was found lying on his back, dressed in an orange shirt and violet trousers. Initial examination by investigators revealed visible injuries, including marks on the head and other parts of the body. A pair of rubber slippers believed to belong to the child was found a short distance away.

After the scene was documented and photographed, the remains were moved to St. Francis Xavier Hospital at Assin Fosu.
