Candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) are expected to receive their results by the end of July, according to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

The examination body says it is currently collating scripts from all regions across the country for onward distribution to the various marking centres as part of processes leading to the release of the results.

Speaking to Adom News, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, assured candidates and parents that efforts are underway to ensure a smooth and credible marking process.

However, Mr. Kapi disclosed that 44 teachers, invigilators and supervisors were arrested during the examination period for allegedly aiding candidates in examination malpractice, popularly referred to as “apor.”

He stressed that examination malpractice remains a criminal offence and warned that WAEC will not tolerate any acts that undermine the integrity of the country’s examination system.

According to him, seven out of the 44 suspects have already been charged and arraigned before the courts, while investigations into the remaining cases are ongoing.

Mr. Kapi reiterated WAEC’s commitment to protecting the credibility of public examinations and ensuring that deserving candidates are rewarded fairly based on merit.
