President of the Athletics Kenya Federation, Jackson Tuwei, has backed Ghana’s 4x100m relay team to achieve success on the global stage following their recent qualification for the 2027 World Athletics Championships.
Team Ghana secured automatic qualification for the championships after an impressive showing at the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana. The Ghanaian quartet booked their place on the second day of competition after missing out on qualification to the final on the opening day.
Speaking in Accra after the World Athletics and Confederation of African Athletics Council meeting on Sunday, Tuwei praised the quality of Ghana’s sprinters and expressed confidence in the country’s ability to compete among the world’s best.
“[Ghana 4*100 relay team] has the potential to make the podium at the world level,” he said.
He added that Ghana possesses one of the strongest relay teams globally, highlighting the country’s talented athletes, sprinting depth and strong sporting organisation.
“Ghana has one of the best relay teams in the world. You have got very good athletes, you have got very good sprinters, and you have got very good organization. Whenever we are here, I know even for this one, the organization is going to be top notch.”
Tuwei further noted that with the right preparation and consistency, Ghana can continue to rise in international athletics and compete successfully at major championships around the world.
“And therefore, it is a matter of weighing to see what is possible, what is not possible. So I’m sure Ghana team will go to the highest level everywhere in the world.”
The Ghanaian relay team will next have the chance to impress home fans during the upcoming 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships.
