Former Asante Kotoko chairman Herbert Mensah has expressed concern over Ghana’s prospects at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, predicting a difficult campaign for the Black Stars despite their qualification for the tournament.
The four-time African champions will feature at the global showpiece, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, where they have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
With the technical team tasked to lead the team to the semi-finals, Mensah believes the reality may be far more demanding for the Black Stars.
“The Black Stars have seen this through the history of time, poor administration, and yet the players themselves try their hardest to produce something special,” he told LUV FM.
“I think this time it will be a little bit difficult for them. The balance of where they go in terms of the group means that anything is possible,” he added.
Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27 in what is expected to be a tightly contested group.
Ahead of the tournament, Carlos Queiroz’s side will intensify preparations with friendly matches against Mexico and Wales as they look to sharpen their squad.
The Black Stars head into the competition aiming to break a disappointing trend, having exited at the group stage in both the 2014 and 2022 World Cups, and will be hoping to finally progress beyond the first round this time.
