AS Monaco defender Mohammed Salisu has taken a significant step forward in his recovery after rejoining group training with the French Ligue 1 side following a long spell on the sidelines.

The Ghana international has been out of action since January, when he sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury during Monaco’s league fixture against Olympique Lyonnais.

In recent weeks, Salisu has resumed light ball work at the club’s training complex, signalling steady progress in his rehabilitation journey after months of intensive recovery.

His return to training marks a key phase in a carefully managed programme following successful surgery earlier in the year, with Monaco’s medical team expected to gradually increase his workload before reintegrating him fully into team sessions.

Before the injury setback, Salisu had become a key pillar in Monaco’s defence and remained an important figure for Ghana’s national team, having also scored twice during the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Despite the positive developments, a return to competitive action before the 2026 FIFA World Cup remains unlikely.

Monaco are understood to be prioritising the defender’s long-term fitness, with the focus now on ensuring he is fully prepared for the 2026/27 season rather than rushing his comeback.
