President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, has appealed to Ghanaians to rally behind newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz as the team builds up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz, 73, takes charge of the four-time African champions on a short-term four-month deal following the dismissal of Otto Addo. The experienced Portuguese tactician, who has previously managed Egypt, Portugal, and South Africa, has been tasked with steering Ghana to a strong showing at the global tournament.
Speaking during the coach’s official introduction to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, ahead of his formal unveiling, Okraku stressed the need for unity and collective backing.
“Carlos Queiroz is part of us now, and he needs our support, and he needs all of us to continue working hard to ensure that we achieve success on the pitch for Mother Ghana,” he said.
Officials from the Black Stars management committee and members of the GFA Executive Council were present at the meeting with the Sports Minister.
Queiroz is expected to begin his tenure with preparatory friendly matches against Mexico and Wales as Ghana intensifies its World Cup build-up.
Ghana national football team will be making their fifth appearance at the World Cup, having been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
After early exits in 2014 and 2022, Queiroz will be aiming to lead Ghana deeper into the tournament and restore pride on the world stage.
