Member of Parliament for Akuapem North Constituency, Sammi Awuku, has urged officers of the Ghana Police Service to act with professionalism and conscience in the discharge of their duties.

Speaking on UTV, he emphasised that the Police Service has maintained the same institutional identity since 1992 and has served successive governments regardless of political affiliation.

According to him, this continuity should remind officers of their responsibility to remain neutral and uphold the law without engaging in acts of intimidation or abuse.

He warned that officers who engage in such conduct should be mindful that political power is not permanent.

Sammi Awuku noted that when there is a change in government, individuals within the system may come forward to report actions taken under previous administrations.

He therefore advised security personnel to allow their conscience to guide their actions and avoid any conduct that could later be questioned.

“If you are a police officer, remember that when the government changes, your own people will tell us who you are. So let your conscience be your guide,” he added.
