Romelu Lukaku will continue his rehabilitation from injury in Belgium after holding positive clear-the-air talks with his club Napoli.

BBC Sport reported in March that the former Manchester United, Chelsea and Everton striker was facing disciplinary action because last season’s Serie A champions believed he had ignored a request to attend training in Italy.

Lukaku’s season has been blighted by a hamstring problem, limiting the striker to just seven appearances. His most recent appearance was as a substitute in a 2-1 win over Torino on 6 March.

The 32-year-old has spent time in his native Belgium since then after an injury setback, meaning he has been away from Napoli’s training base.

However, he returned to Naples to hold what have been described as “calm, collaborative and constructive” talks with his club. The discussions also included his agent Federico Pastorello and Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna.

The talks are understood to have led to an amicable solution, with sources insisting the matter is now closed.

During the discussions, Lukaku updated Napoli on his recovery. It is hoped the striker will be available for selection in about two weeks.
