Asante Kotoko have appointed assistant coach Hamza Obeng as interim head coach for the remainder of the 2025/26 season following the resignation of Prince Yaw Owusu.

Owusu, who had been leading the side on an interim basis, stepped down after a spell marked by inconsistent results.

He was initially handed the role after Karim Zito’s abrupt departure, which came in the wake of Kotoko’s FA Cup loss to Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Stadium.

In a statement, the Kumasi-based club confirmed Yaw Owusu’s resignation, indicating that the coach chose to leave in what he believed was the best interest of the team.

Kotoko have now turned to Obeng, who currently heads the club’s youth side, the Young Porcupines, to steer the senior team through the final stretch of the campaign.

“In the interim, Youth Team Coach Hamza Obeng will take charge of the team for the remaining games of the season,” the club announced.

With 29 matches played in the Ghana Premier League, Kotoko sit sixth on the table with 43 points, as they look to finish the season on a strong note under new leadership.
