Residents of Achimfo in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region have launched a community-driven fundraising initiative, “Achimfest ’26,” aimed at addressing critical development challenges in the area.

The event brought together indigenes, traditional leaders and stakeholders to mobilise resources for essential social amenities, as the community grapples with longstanding infrastructure deficits.

Speaking at the programme, the Chief of Achimfo, Nana Oppong Payin II, outlined pressing concerns including the lack of potable water, absence of a police station, inadequate infrastructure and a poor market system. He noted that these challenges continue to limit economic growth and affect the quality of life for residents.

According to him, the initiative is not only about raising funds but also about fostering unity among citizens of Achimfo, both home and abroad, towards a shared development agenda.

He further appealed to government institutions, corporate bodies and individuals to support the effort, stressing that collaboration is key to transforming the community.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for the Aowin Constituency, Oscar Ofori Larbi, pledged his support for the initiative. He made a cash donation and also promised to contribute 100 bags of cement towards the planned projects.

The MP commended residents for taking the lead in mobilising resources for their own development, describing it as a proactive approach that should be emulated by other communities.

“Achimfest ’26” is expected to serve as a platform to generate funds and drive sustainable development initiatives in Achimfo.
