South African tactician Roger De Sa is expected to be officially confirmed as assistant coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

De Sa will join newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz, reuniting with the Portuguese manager as the duo prepare to guide Ghana into the tournament this summer. The pair have previously worked together with the Egyptian and Iranian national teams.

Confirming his imminent move, De Sa told South African outlet KickOff that he will travel to Accra on Thursday to begin work immediately.

“I will fly out on Thursday to Accra to start working straight away,” De Sa told KickOff.

He noted that Queiroz’s appointment by the Ghana Football Association progressed rapidly following the departure of the previous head coach.

“I think when the previous coach left, the Ghana FA looked at Carlos Queiroz, and obviously it happened very quickly. Within four to five days, it was done.”

The former Bidvest Wits coach admitted the tight schedule and logistics pose a major challenge, especially with most of the national team players based in Europe.

“Those are the challenges, but it comes with a job like this,” he said.

De Sa added that he has already begun extensive video analysis to prepare for the task ahead, particularly given the limited preparation time with the squad.

“I’ve been watching a lot of films and videos, watching different players with different clubs. The biggest challenge is obviously selecting a team without having enough time. Preparations are also very short—you’ve got about two weeks to prepare your team.

“But yeah, that’s how it is, that’s the name of the game,” he added, acknowledging the difficulties that await him in his new role.

Despite the challenges, the 61-year-old insisted he is ready for the demands of the job.

“It’s not easy, it’s going to be difficult, but they’re all difficult anyway,” he added.

Meanwhile, Queiroz is expected to be unveiled in Accra on Thursday.

Ghana will compete in Group L at the 2026 World Cup, opening their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

Queiroz, who brings extensive World Cup experience, previously guided South Africa to qualification for the 2002 tournament, led Portugal to the Round of 16 in 2010, and took Iran to consecutive appearances in 2014 and 2018.
