Incoming Black Stars assistant coach Roger De Sa has pledged that Ghana’s technical team will give their utmost to ensure the country is well represented at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The South African tactician is set to join head coach Carlos Queiroz on the technical bench following Otto Addo’s departure in March after consecutive defeats to Austria and Germany.
De Sa and Queiroz, who previously worked together with the national teams of Iran and Egypt, reunite as they take charge of Ghana’s preparations for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Speaking to South African outlet KickOff, De Sa stressed that the focus is on representing Ghana with pride rather than setting rigid targets.
“It’s all it is—we will do the best we can. There is no mandate to win this and that,” he said.
“The job is to go to the World Cup and fly the Ghanaian flag as high as possible,” De Sa added.
The new technical team is expected to be officially unveiled in Accra on Thursday, April 23, after which Queiroz and his backroom staff will immediately begin preparations with the squad.
Ghana are set to play Mexico in a warm-up fixture before wrapping up their pre-tournament friendlies against Wales on June 2.
At the World Cup, the Black Stars—making their fifth appearance—have been drawn in Group L. They will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
The appointment comes with growing expectations for Ghana to improve on previous performances, having exited early in both the 2014 and 2022 editions, as hopes build for a more competitive showing on football’s biggest stage.
