Board Chair from Lesotho, Thandi Pino, has explained that her country’s delegation is in Ghana to learn and adapt best practices rather than replicate systems wholesale.
Speaking with the media after the Public Procurement Authority Conference, she stated that the visit forms part of a benchmarking effort to strengthen Lesotho’s public procurement framework.
According to her, Lesotho is relatively new to implementing its public procurement laws, making it necessary to study countries with more established systems.
She noted that Ghana was selected because of its experience and progress in the sector, having developed its procurement framework over the years.
“So, we’re not here to just go and copy and paste what Ghana is doing, but we’re more about what is it from Ghana that we can take for ourselves, what is it from Ghana that we can tweak for it to fit into our environment. So that’s basically it,” she said.
Thandi Pino emphasized that the goal is to identify what Ghana is doing right, understand the challenges, and adapt those lessons to suit Lesotho’s local context.
She added that improving systems requires learning from more advanced jurisdictions while tailoring solutions to fit one’s own environment.
