Former Ghana defender Samuel Kuffour has expressed confidence that Vincent Kompany’s achievements at Bayern Munich will create more opportunities for Black coaches, while praising the young manager for his successful campaigns in Germany.

His remarks come after Bayern Munich clinched their 35th Bundesliga title following a 4-2 victory over VfB Stuttgart on Sunday, marking another major milestone for Kompany, who also lifted the league title last season and the Super Cup earlier in the campaign.

Speaking to 3Sports, the former Bayern defender highlighted how Kompany’s success could open doors for other Black coaches, including Michael Essien, to be considered for top managerial roles.

“Vincent Kompany is one of the top young coaches. He has opened so many doors, and he’s young. It’s probably an opportunity for Michael Essien, who is now into coaching, to have the opportunity. The door is wide open for Black coaches,” he said.

Kuffour also highlighted the Belgian’s impressive journey since his appointment in May 2024.

“He won the league. He went out last year [in the quarter-final against Real Madrid in the Champions League], and now he’s in the semi-final. He’s the first Black coach to coach in Germany. We now have a Black coach coaching one of the top clubs in the world,” he added.

Bayern Munich, having already secured the league title, will now turn its attention to a possible treble as they prepare for the DFB-Pokal semi-final clash against Bayer Leverkusen on April 22.

They are also set to face defending UEFA Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final, with PSG hosting the German champions on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
