The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that approval has been granted for the payment of salary arrears owed to eligible staff, following the utilisation of the 2024 financial clearance.

In a directive issued on April 20, 2026, and addressed to all Regional Directors, GES indicated that the Ministry of Finance has authorised the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) to process the payments.

According to the statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director-General (Management Services), Prof. Smile Dzisi, on behalf of the Director-General of GES, the arrears cover the period from August 1, 2024, to November 2025.

GES explained that the outstanding payments will be made in five instalments, beginning from May 2026. The schedule outlined shows that arrears will be paid across multiple months, with each tranche covering four months.

The Service has directed Regional Directors to communicate the development to all Heads of Schools to ensure that affected staff are duly informed.

The move is expected to bring relief to affected staff who have been awaiting payment of their outstanding salaries.
