The National Secretary of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), Primus Baro, has clarified that schools across the country have sufficient food stock to feed students, but are facing challenges due to a lack of funding for perishable items.
Speaking on the JoyNews Desk on JoyNews, he explained that the issue is not food shortages but delays in financial support for essential perishable supplies.
According to him, funding for these items has been in arrears for the past seven months, creating difficulties for school authorities in maintaining balanced meals for students.
He noted that the concerns were raised during a follow-up meeting with the Ghana Education Service and key stakeholders, including the Ghana Education Trust Fund and the National Food Buffer Stock Company.
Primus Baro stated that while non-perishable food items are available, the absence of funds to procure perishables such as fresh produce is affecting the overall feeding programme.
He emphasised the need for government to urgently release the funds to address the backlog and ensure smooth feeding operations in schools.
