Lake Bosomtwe, one of Ghana’s most significant natural resources and a major tourist attraction, is under serious threat from unknown encroachers.

The unidentified individuals have cleared large portions of vegetation along the lake’s banks, exposing the area to direct sunlight and putting the ecological integrity of the natural reserve at risk.

There are ongoing excavation activities at the site, with more vegetation being removed, raising concerns about the long-term sustainability of the lake.

On Wednesday, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, ordered the immediate cessation of all land-clearing activities around Lake Bosomtwe. He also tasked the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) to probe the incident and spearhead efforts to restore the affected areas.

The EPA has since commenced investigations into the destruction of the critical bio-conservation zone by unknown persons along the banks of the lake.

Adom News reporter Kwadwo Obeng Mireku is currently on site with a team from A Rocha Ghana and the Water Resources Commission, assessing the extent of the damage.
